I thought the massage itself was very good. Nice depth of pressure, good intuition about what parts of me needed work. Very relaxing and satisfying. However, some funny things happened around pricing that felt confusing. I came in for a 60 min which they said would be $70. Seems like a great deal! When I was on the table she said the time was up but she hadn’t worked on the front of my body at all yet and asked if I wanted more time. I said 15 more minutes would be great, for a total of 75 minutes, which she then told me would be $110. So they charged $40 extra dollars for 15 extra minutes. Given that 30 min is $50 dollars, the math didn’t add up. Seemed like 15 minutes should have cost $25… Again, compared to many MT’s this is still a reasonable rate, but some parts the process around it was funny. She was then very disappointed I only offered $5 dollar tip on top of the $110. She asked about the tip many times, quite obviously pressuring me to give more. I did feel guilty and scrounged up 5 more ones from my wallet. lol I think they would do better to not haggle over tips, because that part made the experience feel a little icky, even though I really enjoyed the massage and felt very good after in my body. I am a massage therapist and if I’m charging a solid rate, I don’t expect tips and I am not upset if someone doesn’t tip, and I would never comment on it. I was planning to give a great tip for the $70 hour, because that’s a low rate. But when they upped it to $110, it felt hard to tip on top of it, especially when I wasn’t planning for that price and she raised the price mid way through the massage which felt incomplete otherwise. I do think they deserve good tips though! Seems like they work hard and are skillful. If you don’t mind the possible confusion around pricing and pressure around tips, then you’ll probably enjoy the massage!
She did a good job but $50/30 min is EXPENSIVE. When that was done, she asked for a tip. I handed her my card and she said, "$58? $60?" I figured $50 included tip because it was so steep! I left a $5 tip but felt pretty ripped off at $55/30min. That would be $110/hour, when $60-$80/hour is standard at much nicer establishments...
